At Google, we are always looking for ways to make the Internet more relevant because we know access to local content is key to our users. So, we are keeping up the rhythm with Youtube launches in the region: today YouTube makes its debut in Senegal!
Senegal is home to some of Africa’s richest oral tradition and music, including those of Youssou Ndour, Ismaël Lô, or Baaba Maal. We have an active content creator community in Senegal with some great videos being produced, and potential for monetization and partnerships with professional content producers.
A localized version of YouTube means that it will now be easier for users to find and view locally relevant videos on youtube.sn. For example, content uploaded by record label and music management Prince Arts Music or TV Production company Art Bi Manageman, or by other Senegalese users, will surface first in the browsing pages.
In addition to a local youtube.sn homepage, launch features include a Localized User Interface in French, a Localized Home Page (including promoted videos and featured videos), and a Localized Browse Page where you can find the top videos in Senegal.
